All Castle Craft Felt pictures are constructed by building up layer upon layer of wool. Different types of wool, derived from different sources and from variations in the production processes of washing, teasing, carding and combing, may be used for different layers within the picture. The layers of wool fibre are locked together using a barbed needle (hence “needle felted”) to create the colours and textures of the picture. Some pictures will include sewn, embroidery style details. Most of the pictures are inspired by the flora, fauna, and buildings of our surroundings in the landscape of Dartmoor and the cliffs and coasts of Devon. The pictures vary in size. Many of the frames we use are repurposed, reused, up cycled, and recycled materials.
