Meeth Christmas Fair.

The Castle-Craft stall at Meeth Christmas Fair.

We spent an enjoyable day at Meeth Christmas Fair where we met old friends and got the chance to chat with several of the other crafters. One never knows, when a Craft fair is advertised as being in a Barn, if one will be setting up in ancient stone and timber structure, refurbished and converted into a village amenity, or three breeze block, half hight, walls built around a steel frame. Meeth Christmas Fair was in a working barn that had been cleared and cleaned for the fair. Very appropriately in our case, a sheep farm, and we offer our our apologies to the sheep in the next door barn, we hope they were not too inconvenienced by the presence of the crafters. A comfortable venue, plenty big enough to accommodate the craft stalls, the Hatherleigh Silver Band, and a visit from the chubby and plump, right jolly old elf, himself.

There was chatter on social media about people not being able to get to the Christmas Fair, the main road through Meeth being closed, and there were indeed signs on the road stating this. The road had been closed but was not closed over the weekend. The signs referred to work that had been carried out the previous week and for all we knew, would continue in the subsequent week. But, the presence of the uncovered signs seemed to put some people off attempting the trip to Meeth Christmas Fair, and attendance was down on last year according to some regular attenders. We are hoping to fit in a couple more fairs before the holiday but with the recently issued weather warnings we are awaitng confirmation that they will be going ahead.
